Title: The Literary Ecology of the Mahua Huazong Literary Awards for Novels (2015–2024)

Abstract: Existing scholarship on the Huazong Literary Award has largely focused on its early editions, while systematic discussions of the Huazong Mahua Novel Award in the past decade remain relatively limited. This study takes the Huazong Mahua Novel Award from 2015 to 2024 as its object of analysis. It examines ten award-winning works and five sets of Final Review Meeting Records, exploring three dimensions: thematic concerns, evaluation criteria, and the broader significance and impact of the award.

The findings reveal that, over the past decade, the award-winning works have predominantly engaged with the intellectual outlook and everyday lived experiences of the Mahua community, alongside a discernible shift from heroic narratives to representations of ordinary individuals. In terms of evaluation criteria, there has been an increasing emphasis on the depth of representation of Mahua characteristics. Furthermore, the award and its adjudication mechanisms have played a guiding and stimulative role in shaping the field of Mahua literary production.

By situating the discussion within the interconnected frameworks of literary production, literary criticism, and award effects, this paper delineates the literary ecology of the Huazong Mahua Novel Award in the past decade, with the aim of providing a phase-specific reference for future research.
